All childcare providers in England and Wales must adhere to The Statutory Framework for The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This sets out the required standards for care and education required by all providers; whether private or state funded.
The link to the EYFS can be found here.
It describes the expected learning opportunities for children in the three prime areas of Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development. As children get a little older this goes on to include the specific areas of Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.
It is this overarching framework that shapes the Little Wellies curriculum. However, it is up to each individual setting to build their own curriculum based on it. It is our role at Little Wellies to go well beyond the statutory framework and provide exceptional care and learning, tailored to meet the needs of every individual child.
At Little Wellies our curriculum is shaped by the Early Years Foundation Stage, but the delivery of it is uniquely ours. We believe passionately that children learn best through rich play experiences, with skilful practitioners guiding them and teaching them in the moment. Very little time is spent on forward planning, as children’s individual needs change constantly, day by day and minute by minute. We believe in the importance of creativity, role play and outdoor learning to give children a holistic learning experience that will stand them in good stead for future learning. Alongside this we encourage key life skills such as independence, resilience and co-operation.
